How to show up DVD/CD ROM in windows 8 if not detected

after coming of windows 8. every one start install it in his computer even it still a Beta version
thats mean not contain all drivers and had a lot of errors.and a big problem show up too: Many of the users of Windows 8 Beta that is the Consumer Preview are reporting that their DVD drive is not being shown its the
desapearing of the CD / DVD Room. so today i will show you a simple trick from registry that can let you
get back your cd or dvd room.
1. Run Command prompt in Admin mode. For this type cmd in metro UI & press ctrl+shift+enter  to get the cmd Window.

OR in Desktop , just move the cursor to bottom left and right click to get access to various System management tools and from their choose Command Prompt (Admin)

2. In the Command Prompt Window just type & enter
reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001

if you have more then one cd/dvd room type
reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001

reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000002

And reboot. Now insert a disc to test. The drive will be shown.

i know why not working for you the end of the line make a space between (d and 0x00000001) like this
..../v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001

and it will work because i tested it and work with no problem.

At the explorer / Folders / View remove the checkmark in the Hide empty drives in the Computer folder, and enable the Show hidden files, folders and drives from appearing.

Thanks, it worked. I only have 1 CD-Drive but I had to type the second reg.exe … to make it work. I think it is because my case has space for another drive although it's empty.

I've done all the thinks you said, and I still can't see the disc. Maybe I searched it at the wrong place, so: where will the disc be shown?

A friend of mine got the same Problem on Win8(non-Beta) and claims that this doesn't work on AMD-Boards.
The BD-Drive works pretty well, for installing Win8, but when in Win8, it keeps failing.

Fine fix. However what about this: CD/DVD shows up in Device manager as "working properly" is found and displayed in Disk Management tools, Explorer, and accepts/ejects discs, however when a disc is putr in the drive does not spin, the CD/DVD "light" does not blink, and the system ejects the disc with a "Please insert a disc into drive ..." message. The CD/DVD shows up in the BIOS correctly (ATAPI). I have tried the "fixit" and "filter removal" tricks ... no success. Basically the drive just stopped recognizing discs.
I was wondering if anything to do with "virtual drives" and game installations may cause this? (I used a virtual drive to install and play Crysis 2 - which works perfectly fine)
Any help would be appreciated

Machine specs:
I7 Intel (sandy bridge)
12 Gig ram
HD 7850 Video card - 2 gig ram
2 TB + 1TB HD's
WIN Firewall
750 W power supply (best in class)
HP system (ENVY) etc etc
Comment: What good is a "hot" multimedia system that will not recognize DVD's and/or CD's let alone burn them.
I am technically savvy and am stumped.

I used the command prompt (with admin priveledges) and it took your REG entry no problems (checked the REG and it was there)

This also works for Windows 8.1. For my Acer 4810T, only the 2nd worked, ending in 0000002. You're a life saver, almost ordered a new notebook. You'll see my gratitude when you log into your AdSense account today.
